of Union County, North Carolina

The Alternative Land Use Concept is the conceptual representation of a future development pattern for Union County.  The map is descriptive, not prescriptive, conveying the community’s desire for more balanced growth in Union County.

Tell us what you think.  The Alternative Land Use Concept:

  • Facilitates employment growth in key areas of the County that have access to transportation infrastructure, utility infrastructure, available land and are proximate to existing industrial uses.
  • Encourages logistics, industrial and agriculture-related industry growth along major thoroughfares.
  • Supports limited commercial development at rural crossroads.
  • Protects prime agriculture lands and active farming operations from incompatible development.
  • Preserves strategic agriculture areas.
  • Supports compatible neighborhood development in current and future utility service areas.
  • Promotes a mixture of housing types in areas that area easily served by utilities, near commercial centers and compatible with existing development.
  •

I like this statement. Affordable housing near locations where jobs can be found, existing utilities, and transportation is not a barrier.

  2. No affordable housing or public transportation expansion. No need to destroy Union County and make it Mecklenburg County South. There should be a one year moratorium on building permits to allow infrastructure to catch up.

  3. I agree with the above statement. I do not want to see Union county turn into a "mini Mecklenburg"

  4. I do not like the "round abouts" in existing roadways, nor do I want to see anymore built. They are confusing!

  5. How are we to contend with the growth and education, the schools are over flowing, busing the children out into other schools isn't the answer, adding on to existing schools or building more is the way to go.

  6. PLEASE also consider the impact of the high volume/high speed exiting of traffic narrowed onto little Hwy74, and right into the heart of Marshville which is challenged enough (5 lights in a mile w/ dangerous?). Future possibility of crossing 74, passing to the south (fewer incoming roads), reconnecting east of M'ville?
